Strengths
and Weaknesses of the Pocket PC
MEDSYS2
is entering its 9th year of existence and we have had
the opportunity witness a lot of technologies come and
go. We believe that the latest generation of Pocket PCs
will deliver speed and performance required to handle
a busy practice.
Over
the last couple of years 2 camps of handheld applications
have evolved, the Web based and the Windows CE or Palm
based. Our experience, leads us to believe that programs
executing on the handheld device provide best solution
in a sometimes connected environment. However, these systems
tend to slow when large applications or large amounts
of data are loaded.
Tablet PCs vs Pocket PC
We
believe that the Tablet PC may surpass the Pocket PC in
use in the medical arena within a short period of time.
MEDSYS2 is already undergoing modifications to incorporate
the new electronic ink technology. The Tablet PC will
offer a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) capability
which is impractical in the Pocket PC environment. We
believe that soon forms which mirror existing paper forms
will appear on the Tablet PC and the doctors and therapist
can freehand their notes, then within seconds those handwritten
statements are converted to typed text within the form,
and drawings can be maintained in their original state.
The
Pocket PC will remain the work horse for the mobile medical
professional because of its size and portability, while
the Tablet PC will fulfill the needs of the office or
hospital bound individuals. We
haven't been this excited about a technology (Tablet PC)
since the release of the Pocket PC.
